-Açaí is a fruit (most similar to grapes), 80% of the berry is taken up by the seed but the flesh and skin are packed with vitamins and minerals.⠀
-On average 70 calories per cup
-Like other berries, açaí are packed with antioxidants that can help build up your immune system and protect your cells against damage from free radicals. ⠀
-Freeze-dried powder vs juice forms- the antioxidant value ( higher the better) is determined by assessing oxygen radical absorbance capacity known as ORAC value. Research has shown that choosing freeze-dried powder over juice formation has a higher ORAC value. ⠀
Take away: açaí fruit is packed with antioxidant, but no more than other berries like blueberries. The best form to buy is freeze-dried in the frozen isle. ⠀⠀
Açaí bowls are a great snack or meal depending on how you build it up. Be careful to measure out serving sizes of your fruit/ granola/nut butter/chia seeds/nuts and whatever else you might add otherwise this heath packed treat can turn into an unhealthy dessert quick!
